More important, why check someone\u2019s I.D. if it doesn\u2019t accurately represent who is wearing it?<\/p><p>By comparison, the photo on this badge is crisp and clear.<\/p><p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/Autocrop---good-pic_CR.jpg\" alt=\"visitor badge that is printed clearly\" width=\"400\" height=\"232\" \/>\u00a0<\/p><p>Do your badges look this good? If not, here are <strong>three tips<\/strong> on how to make your visitor photo I.D. badges look better than they do now.<\/p><p><strong>1. Start with good lighting and the proper distance from the camera.<\/strong> <br \/><strong>Do<\/strong> \u2026 position your visitors, in daytime, with a window to their side or in front of them.<br \/><strong>Do<\/strong> \u2026 diffuse direct sunlight with sheer curtains.<br \/><strong>Do<\/strong> \u2026 have your visitors stand in the same place every time. Give them a reference point, such as an \u201cX\u201d on the floor to stand on. <br \/><strong>Don\u2019t<\/strong> \u2026 photograph your visitors with a window behind them. This creates a silhouette.<br \/><strong>Don\u2019t<\/strong> \u2026 place your visitors directly under a ceiling light. This creates unwanted shadows.<br \/><strong>Don\u2019t<\/strong> \u2026 take a photo of visitors standing too far away.<\/p><p><strong>2. Optimize the photo for printing.<\/strong><br \/>Some visitor software programs let you choose between printing black and white, such as for barcodes, and printing gray scale, such as for photographs. Choose the latter if you want your photo I.D.s to look their best.<\/p><p><strong>3. Use a good printer.<\/strong> <br \/>Try to use a device that prints at 300 dpi or better. \u201cDPI\u201d means \u201cdots per inch.\u201d The more dots, the more detail in your photo. Badges printed from color inkjet printers look better than black-and-white badges printed from direct thermal printers. But direct thermal printers, which don\u2019t require ink refills, are much cheaper to buy and to operate.
